Lifestyle coaching

I should eat better.
I should exercise more.
I should take my vitamins.
I do well for a while, but then I fall off.
Where do I start? So many contradictory opinions on what is healthy and what isn’t.
Do I eat fat or not?
Do I eat at night or not?
It’s expensive and time consuming to eat well.
Self care. What’s that?
I don’t have time for self-care.
When life settles down, I’ll make time for me.
I don’t want to give up bread and cheese. I love bread and cheese.
Food is my friend.

The objective of achieving balanced physiologic levels of hormones in patients is two fold. The first is the need to address patient’s symptoms. Equally important is the goal of providing the protective benefits the hormones offer. Endogenous (made by body) hormones play a vital role in the protection of the cardiovascular system, the brain and central nervous system, bones, muscles, skin, eyes, and most tissues in the body. Maintaining both the protective benefits and symptom management with restoration therapy occurs only if the hormone levels are balanced and maintained at physiologic levels – not deficient, but also not too excessive. This is achieved by careful observation of symptoms and hormone levels via interview and testing, respectively.

To test or not to test? That is THE question. Cost vs. benefit is the equation. In my experience testing is quite helpful. We equate testing to having a picture to look at when putting together a puzzle. Mystery puzzles are a lot harder and take more time. If we can test it, blood, stool, saliva, urine, swabs, we will! In the occasional case, testing isn’t helpful and/or necessary. Generally speaking, the more data we have to work with to rule in and out possible causes of disease the better!
Benefit – check.
Cost then, “will insurance cover?” The answer is generally YES! Private labs have made it easy on both practitioner and patient alike. The labs we contract with have a maximum (accessible) co-pay for lab panels. They then bill your insurance provider and hope for coverage, if denied by your insurance provider they “eat” the difference because you paid your maximum out of pocket. The one catch. You do have to have insurance to pay the copay price. I.e. A very comprehensive thyroid test panel typically costs $200-$500 depending on which lab you use. The lab we contract with you pay $40 max out-of-pocket and no draw fee. Not bad! Those with Medicare get many labs at no out-of-pocket cost!
These are some of the labs we contract with:

Nutrition & Nutritional SupplementsnuHealth-Naturopathic-care-vancouver-wa-Dr-Nadene-Neale-apple

Nutrition is foundational.  Our digestive system is where the outside world meets the inside world. Each organ system is like a little factory requiring raw material (aka nutrients) for its work. If the food you choose is nutrient deficient, productivity slumps! If you don’t know how to eat, i.e. chewing, productivity slumps! If the food consumed is “toxic” to the individual system, productivity halts! To avoid slumping and halting one needs to learn the ins and outs of nutrient. Which foods are nutrient dense and how to prepare them, how to eat food, and which foods are “toxic” to their systems specifically. If an organ system is compromised often it can take dense and specific nutrition in concentrated form (supplement) to re-nourish the system and restore its function.

Hydrotherapy

Kneipp is the father of Hydrotherapy and water cure treatments. Hydrotherapy is the use of cold water to effect blood content and movement. “Kneipp’s system is as simple as his success is great; Kniepp defended the principle that all origin of disease was in the blood, containing either morbid matter or not circulating right. The influence of cold water was to regulate the circulation of the blood and to force it to secrete morbid matter by means of the skin. Small pox and thyphoid fever for instance he cured in comparatively short time.”

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a mysterious & powerful medicine. It is the use of herbal and mineral medicines in a unquantifiably potent and dilute manner to dissolve disease. “Homeo” in latin meaning “same” “like” “similar” indicates the action of the medicine and parallels the chemical principle that “like dissolves like.” Just as it takes an oily dish soap to dissolve oily grease in a pan, nausea can be dissolved by a homeopathic potentized dilution of the Ipecac (known to induce nausea & vomiting in its natural form).
